Our story so far…

Awakening:

Jamie Hart, a 16-year-old charter school student, finds a magic stone in the woods around her school called a Runestone that can turn her into a magical girl called a Runekeeper!

Soon after she is attacked by an alien named Damian, who she defeats on accident before learning she has the power to heal his wounds.

The next day at school Jamie isn’t feeling well and goes to the nurse’s office. Her classmate (and crush!), Chris, stops by the office to drop off Jamie’s backpack that she left in class only to discover that Damian is behind Jamie’s mysterious illness!

It turns out Chris is a Runekeeper too, and he manages to save Jamie. He confronts her about her actions and reveals that all five of the boys in their friend group are Runekeepers and they’ve been secretly working together to beat Damian to finding the rest of the Runestones.

He also reveals that he and Jamie have the same kind of Runestone, making them partners on their team.

Meanwhile, Charlotte, one of Jamie’s best friends discovers a Runestone on her own. She tells Jamie about it and Jamie reveals the group’s plans to her, excited to have a girl on the team with her.

That same night it is announced that NASA has received valid contact from an alien species, which sends their whole school into a buzz.

Jamie and Charlotte begin attending the “practices” that Chris has organized for their team after school but Jamie and Chris have trouble seeing eye to eye and end up having a fight that drives Jamie to find her friend Laura and seek her counsel. While they are talking Damian shows up again and a Runestone appears before Laura, which she grabs and transforms.

Chris apologizes to Jamie and they agree to try to work together to find the last Runestones, theorizing that Becca and Alex, the other two girls in their friend group, could possibly be the last two Runekeepers. Could their group have been destined for this from the beginning?

Before they can explore that theory much further however, Caleb spills the beans about Jamie’s crush on Chris, which he asks her about. She admits it and surprises him when she firmly asserts that she doesn’t want to date in high school, and that she hopes her feelings for him will eventually go away. Chris tells her he likes someone else and they awkwardly agree to try to be friends and not let romance interfere with their relationship.

Now that the whole team is together they begin regularly practicing for combat together. Then, on their way to Becca’s house to watch a debate being held by the UN on whether the Earth should respond to what is now being called the ET Appeal, Jamie, Charlotte and Laura stumble onto Damian attacking Becca, who it appears is already a Runekeeper!

They help her drive Damian off and reveal the rest of the team to her, learning that she and Alex had both received Runestones several months prior.

The leaders of Earth decide to accept the ET Appeal and the mysterious Extraterrestrial contacts send information to Earth for technology that would allow instantaneous communication through subspace. Later, when Jamie is running late for school she cuts through the woods and unexpectedly finds Damian, mortally wounded. He tells her he was punished for failing to get the Runestones and out of sympathy Jamie heals him again, just as Chris, who had a mysterious intuition that Jamie was in danger, finds them together.

Damian reveals it was a trap the entire time and is about to get Jamie’s Runestone, killing her in the process, when Jamie and Chris suddenly transform into a new, more powerful form of Runekeeper. They manage to defeat Damian in an overwhelming display of firepower and return to school.

The team begins to settle into routine, practicing combat and planning as best they can with an eye on the world events surrounding the technology now being constructed to communicate with aliens by NASA. Their routine is disturbed however, when a new student joins their school and it is none other than their previous enemy, Damian!

This concludes the first arc of Runekeepers.

Redemption (Current Arc):

Damian has somehow become a student at The Charter Academy and he turns himself over to the Runekeeper team, insisting that now that they hold the powerful Runestones, he has decided it’s more advantageous for him to be on their side then against them. He offers to help them train and the team is wary but decides to give him a probationary period to see if he can be trusted.

Damian begins following Jamie around, obviously preferring her to any of the other Runekeepers. This annoys Chris and he warns Jamie to be wary of Damian.

However, after secretly following Jamie home from practice, Damian seems to prove his intentions by protecting her from one of his previous comrades, who attacks her.

They tell Chris about this encounter but he is still wary, warning Jamie that this could still be some kind of trick. When Damian’s probation is up the group decides, with mixed emotions, that their safest option is to keep him around where they can keep an eye on him, allowing him to stay at the school.

Soon after, however, we see Lum, Damian’s former comrade check in on him. He tells her he needs time to gain the team’s trust before they can strike and steal the Runestones for good. Lum warns him they don’t have much time left and Damian agrees but seems to satisfy her enough to convince her to leave the teens alone for now. Is he really just playing nice to trick the team again?

During Christmas break the team celebrates with a party at Becca’s house, where Chris and Jamie share an awkward moment when it is revealed to them that Caleb recruited Becca to help him with a Secret Santa scheme so the two team leaders would have to exchange gifts.

After the party the two of them meet in the woods to try to practice the strange transformation they did before, when Damian tricked Jamie. The Priestess Djr, keeper of the Runestones, appears to them and teaches them about Echod, a technique Runekeepers can do together when they in synch enough to combine their powers.

They nearly manage to do it again but Chris gets embarrassed and interrupts the transformation.

What will happen from here?
